At Playgroup children accompanied by a caring adult, can learn through play, develop skills and get to know other people.
At Playgroup your child will be able to make friends, learn and practise new skills, become more confident with other children and adults, and have lots of fun in the process.
At Playgroup you will be able to enjoy the company of other parents (or caregivers) and be able to watch your child grow and develop thinking, physical and social skills.

REMINDERS

Parents are responsible for their children at all times. Supervise your child closely and consider their age and ability when selecting activities. Some things to remember:

  • We walk inside
  • We learn how we can respect each other by caring for and keeping our friends safe
  • We care for our plants, animals at kindergarten
  • We go up the steps of the mound and down the slide. We slide down feet first
  • Sand is to be played with in the sand pit. Please do not block the watercourse with sand
  • We sit down in the designated areas when we are eating
  • We wear our hat outside

It is not O.K. to ignore the actions, behaviours or language of a child if it prevents the child, other children and adults being and feeling safe. If you notice a child doing something unsafe, (eg moving climbing equipment, climbing up the slide, etc) or behaving unsafely (eg hitting, throwing sand, etc) you need to act – either let the child’s parent know or intervene appropriately.

Our playgroup is a peaceful play environment. This means we discourage the use of weapons in play. We encourage the children to resolve issues through talking and listening.

Playgroup is a parent run session. Parents are expected to assist with setting up activities, routines eg fruit time, and packing up and cleaning up at the end of the session. Please check with your playgroup co-ordinators on ways in which you can help. Some things, which need to be done each week, are:

  • Wiping/scrubbing the tops and edges of tables
  • Cleaning chairs, paint easels and all other equipment used
  • Washing, drying and putting away cups and other kitchen items
  • Returning all equipment to its usual location

Your child will gain more from playgroup through your involvement – you might like to help organise the playgroup, arrange activities for the children etc.
